Additional I Used to Be the Baby Information

"I used to be the baby, but now I am big." So begins this story of a not-very-big sibling who suddenly finds himself with a baby brother. He willing shares his toys with the baby, he plays with him, and he knows when to be quiet. He sings a cheerful song when it is needed, and he teaches his brother many useful lessons. But sometimes even the biggest of us likes to be the baby -- and in this loving family, that is no problem at all!

What Customers Say About I Used to Be the Baby:

Kids understand that different families do things different ways, if they even notice the illustrations that closely. I'm buying this as a gift; we loved it when our 2d and 3rd children were born. I just don't think it matters. To wit, my 3 yr old nurses her dolls all the time, and has never mentioned to me that the baby in the book takes a bottle. Very gentle, very nice modeling of appropriate behaviors in response to a new baby, and helps the big kids understand that they can be nice helpers to a baby who loves them very much. I quibble with the negative reviews: yes the baby takes a bottle, eats toast w jam, but I disagree that this makes it a poor choice if your family doesn't do those things.

I feel this is a fairly negative book and am sorry I ordered it. I also did not appreciate how baby does not like all kinds of things such as bath, stroller, etc. Will now have to return it. This book depicts baby receiving a bottle, sleeping in a crib, watching TV, and eating toast and jam ()., all things which in our family we do not do. If you are a breast feeding, cosleeping, no-TV before age two family this is not the book for you.

He is now 5-1/2 and his baby brother is 6 months and he still gets this book out to read at bedtime. I purchased this book, along with several others, to prepare my 4 year old for the arrival of his little brother. It really helped emphasize that he was going to be the BIG brother and the BIG boy and the baby's special needs.

It doesn't engage my toddler nor doesn't have good pictures. Not a good book.

She loves it and loves to point out the baby. I read the pages and compare the two children in the book to her and her baby sister. Cute book. I bought this book for my oldest daughter who is now 17 months old when she became a big sister at only a year old. She loved it then and still loves it now.
